Everything from The Loyal Subjects is so intricately described if you're not familiar with the work, you may need a legend. So when I had a short email conversation with Jonathan Cathey, co-owner of the company, I got down to bare bones.
what are The Loyal Subjects?
TLS is an art centric brand....we manufacture collectibles, apparel, housewares, accessories, and we also have a consulting/marketing division. We work with street and pop surrealist artists as well as more pervasive companies such as Upper Playground and Crooks and Castles. Our primary artists in our collectibles roster are Sam Flores, Alex Pardee, Joe Ledbetter, Gary Baseman and Buff Monster. We're known for our stringent and high quality and progressive collectibility.
how did you come up with the name?
....through the years I've stayed loyal to my audience and vice versa...always challenging ourselves to manifest better ideas and our audience rewards us for doing so...in essence, I'm loyal to them for their support.
TLS is owned by Jonathan Cathey and Adam Kennedy-Damiano and work out of the big, bright yellow building on Melrose.

Did you check out MANIFEST EQUALITY when it was up at the beginning of the month? Jonathan had a piece in the show (yosi used to do his PR). JC is kind of a triple threat- if that included artist, musician and entrepreneur. I saw this piece at the show and had no idea it was his until it caught my attention and engaged me to see who the artist was.
I went about my painting as sort of a loose Raymond Pettibon-esque inspired commentary...something visual, message driven, and (trying to be) acutely critival...a continuation of the theme between the polar bear floating hopelessly on a block of ice driving the message home that life, logic, equality, rationale, etc are all dying and endangered properties..."
